About this story

Each Saturday in the church porch, Felicity Harrington announces who gave what, and the widow Joan Pritchard's small envelope earns a pitying silence. She is pushed off the flower rota and out of the front pew. But a solicitor's letter is on its way, and the village is about to learn something.
