The reunion invitation arrived in March.

Oak Ridge High Class of 2016 – 10 Year Reunion! Fairway Country Club. Cocktail dress. Tickets $175 per person.

A class group chat started. Two hundred people. At first, it was all excitement. Then the quieter messages started.

I'd love to come but $175 is a lot right now with the kids.

They were the same kids who couldn't afford prom. I knew it, because I'd been one of them.

So I called the Fairway Country Club. Through my lawyer, so nobody would know it was me.

I paid for the whole reunion. Forty-one thousand dollars. Food, drinks, the band, everything. Free tickets for every single person in our class. And a free shuttle bus, for anyone who didn't have a car.

My only condition was that nobody would ever know who'd paid.

Two days later, Brooke posted in the group chat.
