The Logs
“Sorry to interrupt, Graham,” said Kevin. “But I think you'll want to see this before you finish.”
Graham frowned. “Kevin, can it wait?”
“It's about the Hartley's file,” said Kevin. “And backing things up. Since that's what we're talking about.”
The room went quiet.
Kevin walked to the front and handed Graham the papers. He spoke clearly, so everyone could hear.
“Our system records everything,” he said. “So here's what happened on Thursday morning.”
He read from his copy.
“9:15 a.m. Becca saves the final version of the Hartley's presentation. 9:39 a.m. The file is copied to a personal online storage account. 9:41 a.m. The file is deleted from the shared drive. 9:42 a.m. The recycle bin is emptied, so it can't be easily recovered.”
He looked up.
“All four actions were done on the boardroom laptop, by the same user account.”
He paused.
“The user was o.sinclair.”
Eighty people turned to look at Olivia.
She was standing very still at the front of the room in her cream jacket. All the colour had gone out of her face.
“That's—that's impossible,” she said. “Someone must have used my login.”
“The personal storage account the file was copied to,” said Kevin quietly, “is registered to olivia.sinclair, at a Gmail address. I'd guess she wanted to keep a copy for herself. For later.”
