My Sister's Billionaire Fiancé

Beige

Tristan didn't stop at the toast.

All evening, every time he passed us, he had something new.

“Dan! Having fun? Don't get too wild, buddy. Bedtime's at nine, right?”

“Dan, I asked the bar if they had anything beige for you. They said water.”

Kelsey thought it was hilarious. She posted a video of one of the jokes on her Instagram story. My fiancé is SO funny 😂😂

I wanted to say something. Dan put his hand gently on my arm.

“Leave it, Al,” he said quietly. “It's her night.”

Around ten o'clock, Tristan handed out business cards to some of the older guests. Heavy black cards with gold letters. Tristan Vaughn. Founder. Vaughn Capital.

He gave one to Dan, with a wink.

“For when you're ready to make some real money,” he said.

Dan looked at the card for a long time. Longer than you'd look at a business card.

Then he excused himself and went out onto the terrace.

When I found him twenty minutes later, he was standing in the cold, on his phone. He hung up when he saw me.

His face was pale.

“Work thing,” he said. “Sorry. Let's go home.”

The next morning was Sunday. Dan never works on Sundays.

He went into the office at seven a.m. and didn't come home until dark.
